TechFirm and the Websummit

 

Last week, TechFirm Portugal has participated in the “best technology conference on the planet” (-Forbes), the Websummit, with more than 70 000 attendees from 170 different countries.

This event occurred in Lisbon is “the place to be” to discover new digital trends, learn more about tech and network. And, good news, Lisbon our lovely city will host the Websummit for at least 10 years! Once more, Lisbon is in the center of tech evolutions and conversations. It is the best place for companies to learn and improve skills.

Ev Williams, founder and Medium CEO, Lisa Jackson, Apple Vice-President, Young Sohn, Samsung President or Time Berners-Lee were some of the passionate speakers who inspired those days.

The future of technology

The main question of the Websummit was this year: “Where to next?” through the tech prism.

Tim Berners-Lee considered as the «World Wide Web father» suggests to get back to the original Internet meaning – a tool for social equality. To achieve this objective, he revealed his contract for the web with a movement called #ForTheWeb aimed to protect users’ rights and freedoms.

 

“We need to make sure that the people who are connected to the web, that it’s the web that they want,” Berners-Lee said on stage at the Websummit. “…And fix the huge number of issues with the existing web and also help others get online.”

A better future

Indeed, Tech for Good was also one of the topics discussed the most.

How Technology can fixed issues she triggered? Is tech killing democracy? As explained by CNN, “the tech industry is facing more challenges than ever before — from regulation and hacking, to questions about funding and the trade war between the world’s two biggest economies”. We need to find answers.
